Rubbery electric conductor developed using carbon nanotubes
Japanese researchers have discovered a rubber-like material, which is a good conductor of electricity. This means, electronic devices that could bend is a possibility in the near future. Tsuyoshi Sekitani, University of Tokyo developed the material with the help of carbon nanotubes. The nanotubes were mixed with rubbery polymer and attached tiny transistors to the materials, which resulted in a material that is a good conductor of electricity. This could mean that the material could be used in products like robot’s arms, which need to be flexible and need some sort of bending. Meanwhile, a US team revealed that it has successfully developed an elastic mesh material that helped them build an electronic eye camera that was based on the size and shape of the human eye. This may be the first step in the artificial human eye implantation. The successful discoveries of such new materials may help fuel not only nanotechnology but also robotics, medicine and a plethora of other electronic related areas.
