Pressure-sensing touchscreens for mobile devices on their way
It’s perhaps too early to even think of touchscreens losing out in the market. But, like every hope produces a new approach, a bleakest hope amid researchers in the UK have prompted them to work out a pressure-sensitive enhancement for the touchscreens. Using what’s called the quantum tunneling composite (QTC), that relies on a 75-micrometer technology, Paratech has developed cost effective pressure-sensing touchscreen technology which differentiates between gentle touch and a hard poke.

The Paratech’s sensors placed on the perimeter of the touchscreen display very efficiently detect where—and how hard—the screen is being pressed, and thus respond accordingly to it. The pressure-sensors consume need no power in static state, and are good to respond to only 2mm response from the user. While we are think of the Pressure-sensing technology and its applications in mobile touch screens, Nissha, a Japanese manufacturer has already signed a $1.4 million deal to license the technology for products, which may be seen in LG and Nintendo products as soon as April.
